Personal Post | My 2016 Resolution

December 25, 2015

I am THE WORST at making and keeping my New Year’s resolutions. So bad, in fact, that I’ve completely stopped making them in recent years. It’s just too easy to fall into the “life’s too crazy, I’ll revisit that diet soon” trap so this year, I’m upping the ante and I challenge you to as well!

Let’s increase the stakes and adjust our focus – rather than trying to revive your exercise routine that got lost in the 80’s, try centering your efforts on helping others, infusing happiness wherever you can and making meaningful change in your life. If we grow our efforts beyond our own personal gain, we will remove the looming threat of “what if I stumble or fail”.

Investing in those around us is THE recipe for success!

I know you’re probably asking, “this is great and all but how do I do this; how do I live it”. Well, friend, there’s no right or wrong answer here because this is all about what happiness and success look like for you; how this all fits into your life. It can be something tangible like investing time in charity work and giving what you can to those in need or it can exist in the smaller things such as smiling at each person you pass in the hall or telling someone you’re thankful for them. This is about changing your life, investing in others and seeing the spirit you give come back to you tenfold. I am so excited to focus on this journey over the next year and I hope you’ll join me because I’m sure this is one promise that we can all stick to the whole year through!

Writing this to you has allowed me to slow down and think hard about 2015 and all of its successes, trials, laughs and love – it’s a tad bittersweet because I don’t think I’m quite ready for it to end. Whether or not you’re a total sap like me, I encourage you to find a few moments to soak it all in because ready or not, that ball is going to drop tomorrow night. Cheers to dreaming big, loving hard and taking the world by storm one little day at a time in 2016!

BONUS: I came across this little article in my “facebook travels” this week and thought that it really jives with our New Year’s resolution. Elizabeth Gilbert, the bestselling author behind Eat Pray Love and Big Magic (on my 2016 reading list), briefly dives into the complexities of relationships and the promotion of success as it correlates to crabs – you heard that right, crabs! A quick, insightful, read that’s food for thought!

And for accountability’s sake, here are some my personal goals for 2016:

Stop asking “what if” and start asking “what if not”

Live (and love) without abandon

love this! I stopped doing resolutions as well, but I think this is great "resolution" I’d want to keep on top of! Also reading Big Magic this year in our photographer’s book club (in Feb) and I can’t wait!!
